Football Seniors honoured at annual Awards Banquet

The Lancer Football team paid tribute to their graduating seniors as part of their annual football awards banquet on Monday night at the Ambassador Auditorium on the campus of the University of Windsor.

The evening was highlighted by the special helmet presentations to the 5th year graduating Lancer seniors which included Cory Fernandes, Paul Lefaive and Cody Butler. Fourth year grad Sam Malian was also presented a helmet to recognize his commitment to program despite a number of serious injuries.

Second year quarterback Austin Kennedy took home the evening's top award as the Barry Halliwill Memorial Most Valuable Player. Kennedy, also named an OUA All-Star had a sensational sophomore campaign as he led one of the post potent offensive attacks in the country this year.

Receivers Jordan Brescacin and Cory Fernandes shared the Offensive Player of the Year award honours. The receiving duo both caught 50 passes this year and were two of the top receivers in the CIS this season.

CIS Second team All-Canadian Matt McGarva was named the Defensive Player of the Year while rookie Marcus St. Aubin claimed the Norm Casola Memorial Rookie of the Year award.

Othe major award winners included graduating senior Paul Lefaive being named the Dave Stievano Memorial Most Dedicated Player while CIS First Team All-Canadian Seamus Postuma earned the Brian Cruciano Sr. Memorial Lineman of the Year award.

Mitch Dender captured the Special Teams Player of the Year award and Evan Pszczonak claimed the Most Improved Player honour.

The evening was closed out with a special "Sportscenter Lancer Top 10 Plays of the Year" to the delight of the players, supporters and fans in attendance.
