Lancers fall to Huskies at CIS Championships

Box Score The Lancer men's hockey team had their season come to close on Saturday night with a 9-0 loss to the Saskatchewan Huskies in their second game of pool play at the CIS Championships.
 
Windsor finishes the tournament second overall in their pool with a 1-1 record, while the Huskies went 2-0 and advance to the gold medal game on Sunday afternoon against the Alberta Golden Bears.
 
The hometown Huskies took a 1-0 lead off a shot from Kendall McFaull in the slot at 8:42 of the period, and built their lead to 2-0 four minutes later with a goal from Derek Hulak.
 
Saskatchewan dominated the second period with four un-answered goals to hold a 6-0 lead after forty minutes. Hulak scored his second of the game at 4:41 of the period, before Andrew Bailey scored his first of the national championships at 6:07. Craig McCallum and John Lawrence would each add goals before the end of the frame.  
 
In the third, the Lancers held the Huskies off the board until the 9:26 mark of the period when Ryan MacDonald got one past Lancer goaltender Parker Van Buskirk. Josh Roach added a goal five minutes later, before Cody Smuk closed out the scoring on the power play at 18:20.
 
Windsor struggled offensively throughout the game being out-shot by the hosts 34-19.
 
The Blue & Gold made program history at the CIS Championships this weekend winning the team's first ever CIS game on Thursday night when they defeated the Acadia Axemen 4-2.
