The Windsor Lancers are pleased to announce that graduating women's basketball standout
Jessica Clemencon has signed a professional contract to play in France next season.
Â
The native of St. Rambert, France recently signed a two-year contract to play for
UFAB 49 in the French First Division in the city of Angers. She becomes the fourth Lancer women's basketball player to sign a pro contract following in the footsteps of Dranadia Roc, Raelyn Prince and Iva Peklova.
Â
"I'm thrilled to learn that Jessica has signed to play professionally in France next year," commented Head Coach Chantal Vallée. "She has worked extremely hard on developing as both a player and a person over the past five years and she is very deserving of this opportunity. I am looking forward to following her professional career next season."
Â
Clemencon, a 6'3'' forward, graduated as one of the most decorated female athletes in University of Windsor history. She helped lead her Lancer squad to four straight CIS national championship titles throughout her career and appeared in the CIS championship game in each of her five seasons.
Â
After being named CIS rookie of the year in her Lancers' debut in 2009-10, Clemençon captured the Nan Copp Award as the most outstanding player in CIS basketball in 2011-12, becoming the first player in history to win those two awards in back-to-back campaigns.
Â
That same year, Jessica captured the prestigious BLG award as the top overall female university athlete in Canada. She became only the second athlete in University of Windsor history to be named the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) athlete of the year. Â Incredibly, she was also a five-time OUA all-star and three time CIS All-Canadian throughout her university career.
Â
In addition to Clemencon, fellow teammate and graduate
Miah-Marie Langlois has recently signed with the Slan Sports Management agency and is pursuing professional opportunities as well. Currently, Langlois has been added to the Canadian National team's athlete pool and will be training with the senior national team this summer.
Â
"I am also excited to hear that Miah has signed on with Slan Sports Management as she also pursues a professional contract," added Vallée. "She is a tremendous point guard and has developed into a great leader over her five years playing for the Lancers. I look forward to her following her as well in the years to come."
Â
Like Clemencon, Langlois graduates as a highly decorated female athlete who also won four consecutive national titles throughout her career. In addition, she was also a CIS All-Canadian and a three-time CIS defensive player of the year.
