Chantal Vallée, Head Coach of the four-time defending CIS national champion Lancer Women's Basketball program has been added to Brazil's Senior Women's Olympic team coaching staff for the summer. Â
Â
Vallée will join the team in Sao Jose Dos Campos, Brazil on June 19 for phase one as they open their training camp in preparation for the 2014 FIBA World Championships hosted by Turkey from September 27 to October 5.
Â
The Brazilian team, currently ranked seventh in the FIBA world rankings, will then travel to Edmonton, Alberta for a three-game series against ninth ranked Canada hosted by the City of Edmonton at the Saville Community Sports Centre. Later in the summer, they'll travel to Ecuador in early August for the South American Championships.
Â
For Coach Vallée, it is a tremendous opportunity to help coach at the senior women's level with an Olympic program.
Â
"I am very excited to join the Brazilian Women's National team coaching staff as they prepare for the 2014 FIBA World Championships," commented Vallée. "This will be a great chance for me to gain further experience at the senior national level and I am really looking forward to working with the top women's players in Brazil."
Â
Vallée recently completed her ninth season as the Head Coach of the University of Windsor Women's Basketball program. The native of Montreal, Quebec has built the premier collegiate women's basketball program in the country since arriving at Windsor in 2005.
Â
In 2013-14, Chantal was named the CIS National Coach of the Year after leading her team to an incredible fourth straight CIS national championship title, winning at home for the second time in four years. The Lancers finished the regular season with a 21-1 record and the No. 1 ranking in Canada. After capturing their fifth OUA title in six seasons, the Lancers knocked off Saint Mary's to capture the prestigious Bronze Baby trophy as national champions for the fourth consecutive year.
In 2012-13, Vallée's squad made program history as they completed an undefeated regular season with a 21-0 record and the No. 1 ranking in Canada. It was the first time in OUA women's basketball history that a team has gone undefeated since moving away from the 12-game schedule and placed first overall in the OUA west division for the fourth consecutive year.
Previously, Vallée has served as an assistant coach with the Canadian junior women's national team and also as the head coach of the Quebec Provincial team that won a bronze medal at the 2002 National Championships in New Brunswick.
