Lancer Golf shows promise after weekend competition

Written by: Adam Wagner, Head Coach – Lancer Golf

Men @ Rebel Creek - Saturday
Men @ Grey Silo - Sunday
Women @ Cambridge – Saturday & Sunday

Saturday - Weather played a factor at both golf courses.  Worst playing conditions that have been seen in a long time of playing OUA tournaments.  High of 8 degrees and rain all day and 50 km/h winds certainly made the playing conditions very difficult for both the men and the women.  Staying dry and staying warm was the focus on the day as well as making pars.
Sunday- Weather was exceptional.  Very comfortable compared to the day before and the majority of players in the field posted a score on average 5 strokes better than the previous day.  Excellent scoring conditions.  Our players played considerably better than the day before and acted as a confidence booster for the following day at Guelph.  Highlight of the day was Jason Buliga's Eagle on hole # 17 at Grey Silo.  Hit three wood from 261 to 4 feet!
"I was proud of the way our players battled all weekend," said head coach Adam Wagner. "From the tough conditions on Saturday we were able to make a very strong push on Sunday to get ourselves back into contention and put up some outstanding scores."
"This was a great weekend for both the Men's & Women's teams and we look to build on this success going into Guelph tournament on Monday."

Guelph Tournament – Monday October 5th
Both Men & Women at Cutten Fields

We could not have asked for better weather heading into Monday's Tournament at Guelph.  No wind, and an outstanding golf course for the Lancers to kick things into high gear and post the best tournament finish for both the Men's & Women's teams.  Solid play by all players allowed us to post some of our best scores of the season as we ramp up for the OUA Championships in a few weeks.
Quote from Coach Wagner….."This tournament was sort of the coming out party for the Lancer Golf teams and showed the other schools just how strong we are.  Our goal as coaches is to get our players to peak and be at their best for the OUA Championships in a few weeks.  This tournament was the perfect opportunity for both of our teams to come together.  The support these two teams have for each other is incredible."

The Men's team officially finished in a 5th position and the Women's Team finished in the Bronze medal position two shots out of 2nd place.
Note: Darren Whitehouse finished his round with a score of 73.  Unfortunately Darren mistakenly signed an incorrect scorecard and was disqualified for this mistake.  Had Darren signed the correct score on his scorecard we would have finished in 2nd place position.
Michael Britton was T-3 shooting a 71
Emily Stadder & Kelly Riccardi were both T-6 each shooting an 83.
Lexi Lawrence was T-10 shooting an 89.
Both the Lancers Men's & Women's Teams hit the road next week for the McMaster Invitational, the final preparation for the OUA Championships.
