Lancer Holiday Clothing Drive
 
It's that time of year again! The Lancer Holiday Clothing Drive kicks off this Friday night, November 13th and runs until Saturday, November 21st, 2015. The Department of Athletics will be accepting winter coat donations and other clothing items for local families in need this holiday season. All items in good condition will be accepted – this year, children's winter coats are in high demand!
 
Anyone who makes a donation will also receive a ballot for a chance to win a Lancer Holiday Prize Pack. The winner will be announced at the Lancer Basketball doubleheader vs. Toronto on November 21st.  For more information, contact the athletic department at (519)253-3000 ext. 2437. Happy Holidays!
 
Cross Country
The Lancers cross country team is looking to end the season with on a high note as they head to Guelph to compete in the 2015 CIS Championships. Hoping to knock Guelph off their streak, the No. 2 Lancer men's team has a strong group of runners that include OUA silver medalist Paul Janikowski and OUA all-stars Corey Bellemore and Joseph Kagumba. The team was just one point shy of defeating the Gryphons at the provincial championships and have a strong shot of doing it at the national level. The men's last banner was won in 2005 at Dalhousie, which secured the three-peat for squad.
 
On the women's side, OUA all-stars Stefanie Smith and Allie Parks, along with a veteran core of Lancers are back at the championships after a year absence and will also be aiming for a podium finish.
 
The women's race starts at 11:30am, followed by the men at 12:30pm. Both races can be seen live at www.cis-sic.tv. Start lists and live results can also be found at www.cis-sic.ca.
 
Women's Basketball
The No. 8 Lancers will look to continue their win streak this weekend against the visiting Western Mustangs on Friday night. Last week, the Lancers had a pair of games against the Laurier Golden Hawks and the Waterloo Warriors. On Wednesday, November 4th the Lancers hosted the Golden Hawks in their home and season opener. Strong play from both teams kept the crowd on the edge of their seats for most of the game before Windsor secured their victory with a pair of free throws by Caitlyn Longmuir to make the score 85-80. Prior to tip-off the members of the 2014-15 championship team were presented with their championship rings and saw their banner raised into the rafters. On Saturday the team travelled up the 401 to face the Waterloo Warriors. In true Lancer Basketball fashion, the women dominated the Warriors 88-63 for their second win of the season.
 
This weekend the Lancers will host division rivals, the Western Mustangs. The Lancers and Mustangs are both tied for first in OUA West standings with a 2-0 record. Game time is set for 6pm on Friday, November 13th at the St. Denis Centre.
 
Men's Basketball
Looking to extend their winning streak, the Lancer men's basketball team will host the No.7 Western Mustangs in a Friday night division rivals showdown. Last week, the Lancers opened their season against the Laurier Golden Hawks on home court. After some back and forth play in the first half that saw the Lancers face some early foul trouble, they exploded in the third quarter Windsor outscoring their opponents 30-19 as they built a twenty point lead in the fourth quarter, on route to their ten point win. Alex Campbell led all scorers with a game high double-double of 30 points, 11 rebounds. On Saturday, the Blue and Gold travelled to Waterloo to face the unranked Warriors. Despite a late second quarter surge from the Warriors and a close second half, the Lancers were ignited by an alley-oop dunk from rookie Isiah Osborne to propel them to their 91-81 road victory. The Lancers sit atop the OUA west division standings and will host the 1-1 Mustangs at the St. Denis Centre. Game time is set for 8pm, proceeding the women's game.
 
Women's Volleyball
The women's volleyball team is looking to continue their winning streak this weekend against the Queen's Gaels and RMC Paladins. Last weekend, the women travelled to Ottawa to face the Gee Gees in their lone game of the weekend. Strong play from both team throughout the sets led to some close matches and great volleyball. Windsor came through in the end to secure the 3-0 upset, and their second win of the season. Currently the Lancers sit at 2-2 on the season and are tied with Guelph for third place in the OUA West. The Gaels hold a record of 2 wins and 3 losses so far this season. The match is set to start at 2pm on Saturday at the St. Denis Centre. On Sunday, the Lancers will look to sweep the weekend against the 1-4 Paladins. Game time is at 2pm in the St. Denis Centre. The Lancers will also honour the 2005-06 OUA Champion women's volleyball team at Saturday's game.
 
Men's Volleyball
The men's volleyball team is looking for their first win of the season this weekend as they suit up against the Queen's Gaels on Saturday and the RMC Paladins on Sunday. Last weekend the Lancers hosted the Western Mustangs in their home opener but despite a strong game from Windsor they were unable to seal the victory, falling 3-0 to the visitors. With the loss, the Lancers are still looking for their first win as they currently sit at 0-4 on the year and in last place in the OUA standings. The Queen's Gaels have had a strong start to their season, sitting at a record of 4-1. Game time is at 4pm on Saturday, Nov. 14th at the St. Denis Centre. On Sunday, the Lancers will host the 0-6 RMC Paladins, also at 4pm at the St. Denis Centre.
 
Women's Hockey
Back on the ice after a week off, the Lancer women's hockey team is hoping the break did them some good both mentally and physically as they head into the weekend on a quest for their first win of the season Prior to their bye week Windsor fell to the Nipissing Lakers 1-0 on the road before dropping a 4-1 decision to the host Voyageurs. With the losses, the Lancers are 0-5-0-1 on the year and sit in last place in the OUA standings. This weekend they will host the York Lions (1-5-1) on Friday night at 7:30pm and the Guelph Gryphons (6-2) on Saturday afternoon at 4:00pm at South Windsor Arena. Both games can be seen live at www.oua.tv.
 
Men's Hockey
The Lancer men's hockey team dropped a pair of games this past weekend against the Laurentian Voyageurs which moves the Blue & Gold to 6-3-1 on the season and into third place in the west division.  On Friday, the Lancers held a 3-0 lead throughout most of two periods before Laurentian got on the board late in the second to make the score 3-1. Unfortunately, the third period was all Laurentian as they built a substantial 6-3 lead before securing the game with an empty net goal. Looking to rebound on Saturday, the Lancers built a 2-1 lead heading into the third period, but as fate would have it the Voyageurs dominated the final period earning the 3-2 win. This weekend the Lancers will look to bounce back on the road in a pair of games against the Brock Badgers (4-3-3) and the York Lions (6-1-2). Puck drops at 7:15pm on Friday against Brock and 7pm on Saturday against York. Games can be found on OUA.tv.
