Former Windsor Lancer track & field star Melissa Bishop made history Saturday morning capturing a silver medal at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China.
Â
In a battle down the home stretch, the Eganville, Ontario native crossed the finish line in a time of 1:58.12 to capture Canada's very first medal in the women's 800m.
Â
Bishop also becomes the very first Lancer to ever medal at the World Championships.
Â
Earlier in the week, Bishop ran 1:57.52 in the semi-finals to set a new Canadian record, breaking Diane Cummings' record that stood for 14 years.
Â
Marina Arzamasova of Belarus won the gold in 1:58.03, while Eunice Sum of Kenya took the bronze in 1:58.18.
