Lancer Soccer head coach
Steve Hart is pleased to announce the recruiting class for the 2015 men's soccer program.
Â
Joining the Blue & Gold this fall are local product Noah Pio, Jamar Redhead, forward Leighton James Speechley-Price, and midfielder Marcus Diloreto.
Â
A graduate of Windsor's Holy Names high school, Pio and the Knights went undefeated in WECSAA competition for the past three seasons and qualified for the OFSSAA championships the past two seasons.
Â
Currently playing with the Windsor Stars, Pio captured the level one Ontario Youth Soccer League (OYSL) championships in 2014 with the FC Nationals. Named Team MVP that year, Pio scored the lone goal in the Ontario-Quebec Cup championship to lead the Nationals to victory.
Â
Pio, younger brother to current Lancer forward
Michael Pio, will study in the faculty of Human Kinetics in the fall.
Â
Redhead, a native of King City, Ontario, joins the Lancers from St. Thomas of Villanova College and the Bolton Wanderers Soccer Club.
Â
With his high school team, Redhead started all four years and was named team captain in his final year. He finished his senior year as the league's leading scorer and was named team MVP, en route to leading Villanova to their first ever soccer championship title.
Â
In 2014, Redhead and the Wanderers captured the U18 OYSL championships after an undefeated regular season.
Â
Crossing the pond to join the Lancers, Speechley-Price comes to Windsor from the United Kingdom.
Â
Speechley-Price spent a large amount of his youth career within the academy system in England and he had an early introduction into senior soccer making his debut for Salisbury City FC at just 17 years old. During his senior soccer career, Leighton played for various clubs around the league where his versatility was utilised. Standing at 6'5, Speechley-Price is a big, powerful frontman with a high level of technical ability that his teams took advantage of and used to their benefit.
Â
In 2013, the future Odette School of Business major led Brockenhurst high school to the British School Cup championship.
Â
Diloreto joins the Lancers from the Mount Hamilton Avalanche Soccer Club. A multipurpose athlete, he has been called upon to play a variety of positions including attacking midfielder, outside midfielder, and defense.
Â
Diloreto will study Disability Studies and Psychology this fall at the University of Windsor.
Â
"I am very excited about our recruiting class for the 2015 season," said Hart. "They are a versatile and very talented group of young men that will make an immediate impact on the field this season."
Â
Training camp for the 2015 season opens on Sunday August 16th, with the regular season kicking off on Saturday August 29th in Guelph. The Lancers will open the home portion of their schedule on Friday September 11th when they host the Waterloo Warriors on Alumni Field at 8:15pm. Â
