The Lancer men's track & field team has once again captured the OUA Track & Field Championship title. The Blue & Gold captured their 23rd title in 26 years on Saturday afternoon inside Fairall Fieldhouse at the St. Denis Centre.
Â
Windsor ran away with the men's title racking up 174 points, 31 points ahead of the second place Guelph Gryphons who finished with 143 points and the Western Mustangs who placed third with 96 points.
Â
On the women's side, the Guelph Gryphons captured the team title with 178 points, ahead of the Toronto Varsity Blues in second with 131 points and the Western Mustangs with 130. The Lancer women finished fifth overall with 77.5 points.
Â
The Lancer men proved once again that team work is the key to winning championships as a balanced team effort was the key to locking up the OUA title. The Lancers took home only one gold medal on day two of the competition, courtesy of the 4x200m relay team of
Jaiden Brown,
Chris Kramer,
Shavon Harding and
Ildemaro Ponnambalam who raced their way to first place in a time of 1:28.74.
Â
Windsor earned top 3 finishes in five events, including
Corey Bellemore and
Alex Ullman in the men's 600m,
Taylor McArthur and
Paul Janikowski in the 1500m and
Christopher Waugh and
Milos Savic in the pole vault. Brendan Wilhelm captured a silver medal in the high jump, while the 4x400m relay team also brought home a silver in their final race of the day.
Â
For the Lancer women, the 4x400 m relay team of Mariah Wilson, Tichina Jones, Stephanie Shaw and Emily Omahen placed third overall with a time of 3:55.29, while Sarah Mitton brought home silver in the shot put with a throw of 15.20m. Virginia McLachlin also captured a silver medal in the women's 60m Ambulatory race with a time of 10.10.
