Campbell named CIS & OUA Athlete of the Week

Alex Campbell has been named the OUA & CIS Athlete of the Week.

The Windsor Lancers are off to the OUA Wilson Cup Final Four for a fourth consecutive season thanks in large part to a monster weekend from veteran Campbell (Brampton, Ont.).

On Wednesday night in the opening round of the playoffs, the fifth-year graduate studies student-athlete scored just under 50 percent of the Lancers total points in a 82-73 victory over the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs.  The Brampton, Ont. native scored 13 of the Lancers' 18 first quarter points and finished the game with 37 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and a block in 38 minutes of action.

For an encore, the 6-foot-2, 200 lbs guard led the Lancers into McMaster's Burridge Gymnasium where Windsor upset the No. 5 ranked Marauders 79-78.  Campbell, who played all 40 minutes, finished with a game high 33 points, five rebounds, three steals and a block.

Over the course of both playoff games last week, Campbell had 70 points, 15 rebounds, 7 steals and 2 blocks, playing in all but three minutes in those two games.

Campbell and the Lancers hope that history is on their side as they will now travel to Ryerson on Friday night to take on the No. 1 seeded Rams in the semifinals.  The Lancers, who handed Ryerson one of their two losses earlier this season, knocked off the No. 1 seeded University of Ottawa Gee-Gees in last year's semifinal matchup.
