The Department of Athletics and Recreational Services is pleased to announce their major award nominees for the 2015-16 Windsor Lancers Evening of Excellence.

The winners will be announced at the Lancers' annual awards banquet which will take place on Wednesday, April 6th at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts.

The nominees for University of Windsor female rookie of the year are Paiten Stephens from women's soccer, Jade Zeibarth from women's volleyball, and Kaylee Anagnostopoulos from women's basketball.

On the men's side, rookie of the year nominees includes Isiah Osborne from men's basketball, Drew Desjarlis from football, Bran Gyemi from men's volleyball, and Justice Dundas from men's hockey. Â

The super sophomore awards are presented to the outstanding second year female and male athletes. The female nominees are Carly Steer from women's basketball, Cassie Chretien from women's soccer, and Sarah Mitton from track & field.

The male super sophomore nominees are Marko Kovac from men's basketball, Matt McLaughlin from track & field and Chris Al-Youseff from men's soccer.

The Captain's Trophy is presented to the male and female captains who demonstrate outstanding leadership both on and off the field while also making a significant contribution to the overall success of the team.

Female nominees include Laura Lecce from women's soccer, Jillian Rops from women's hockey, and Lauren Stirling from women's volleyball. Male nominees include Eli Pawliw from track & field, Mike Rocca from men's basketball and Randy Beardy from football.

The IG Champions Cup is a department trophy that's awarded each year to the men's and women's Lancer varsity team that best exemplifies what it takes to be a champion in the classroom, on the playing field and throughout the community. The finalists for the IG Cup are Men's Soccer, Men's Track & Field, and Women's Volleyball.

The Gino Fracas Coach of the Year category has four outstanding nominees this year. They include
Steve Hart from men's soccer,
Ryan Steer from men's basketball,
Brett Lumley from track & field, and
Lucas Hodgson from women's volleyball.

The prestigious DeMarco Awards are presented yearly to the top female and male student-athletes who best combine academics and athletics. The female nominees include Shannon Dean from women's volleyball, Emily Prevost from women's basketball, and Laura Lecce from women's soccer.

The male nominees for the DeMarco Award include Shawn Reaume from men's volleyball, Milos Savic from track & field/men's volleyball, and Akbal Gill from men's soccer.

The Banner Shield is presented annually to the University of Windsor's outstanding female athlete of the year.

This year's three nominees for the Banner Shield include Cheyanne Roger from women's basketball, Lauren Stirling from women's volleyball, and Stefanie Smith from cross country/track & field.

The Olympic Shield is presented annually to the University of Windsor's outstanding male athlete of the year.

The nominees for the Olympic Shield as University of Windsor male athlete of the year are Corey Bellemore from Cross Country and Track & Field, Alex Campbell from men's basketball, and Matt Gayer from football.

The award winners will be announced this Wednesday, April 6th at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts as part of the Windsor Lancers 2015-16 Evening of Excellence.
