Lancer Baseball advances to World Series

The 4th ranked Windsor Lancers (23-9-1) won all three games at the NCBA District 5 Regional this past weekend to punch their ticket to the World Series in Pittsburg, Kansas May 20th to 24th 2016.
 
Game #1 vs University of Minnesota
The Lancers beat the #13 ranked team in the county 11-1 in the opening round of the District 5 regional leaning on the strong pitching of starter Rob Csapo who went four strong innings allowing only 2 hits.
 
Game #2 vs University of Illinois
The Lancers and Fighting Illini played four scoreless innings with strong defense on both sides before the Lancers blew the game open in the 5th inning scoring four runs.  Noah Pickering pitched the complete game shut-out, allowing just four hits in the game.  Kyle Renaud had a two out 2 RBI single in the 5th that sealed the game for the Lancers.
 
Game #3 vs University of Illinois
In the Championship game, the Lancers got down early off an opening game error by shortstop Colin Gordner.  In the second inning, Windsor tied the game at 1-1 with a Beau Hunter sac fly that scored Andrew Downer from third base. 
 
The teams exchanged hits and great plays for the next six innings, with neither team allowing a run, and sending the game went to extra innings.  In the bottom of the 8th, Downer stepped up to the plate with one out and bases loaded and drove the first pitch off the center field wall scoring the game winning run and sealing the Regional Championship for the Lancers.
 
Starting pitchers Cody Gillis had a great four innings pitched allowing only one run.  Brendan Warnock finished the game with four scoreless innings. 
 
Windsor now advances to the NCBA World Series that takes place in Pittsburg, Kansas from May 20-24, 2016.
