The Windsor Lancers golf team will be looking to build on one of their best seasons to date and they hit the green this weekend for the OUA championships in Kanata.  
 
The Lancers have medaled in several meets, with Melanie Burgess and Bryce Evon leading the way for the women's and men's teams.
 
"I've been here four years now; I think it's our best season under my tenure," said head coach Adam Wagner on this season so far. Wagner noted the women's team's victories at McMaster and Guelph with Burgess playing a factor in both those victories, shooting an 80 and a 79 respectively.
 
"Burgess has been the biggest surprise for us," explained Wagner. "She's from Windsor and we got her from Northern Ohio…it was a huge find for her to come back home."
 
The men's team will likely be paced by freshman Bryce Evon. Evon has led the Windsor team in most of the meets and will be looking to have another good outing this weekend in Kanata.
 
The championships will be played at Kanata's Lock March. The course does present some challenges for Wagner.
 
"It's a difficult course," he explained. "The greens can be very difficult, it's more of a position golf course, that's what we've been working on, position off the tee."
 
The weather may also pose an issue, with some forecasting rain on Sunday. As well, golfers will have to deal with a 12km/h breeze on Saturday before battling the 23km/h winds expected Sunday.
 
The strategy to each hole will be finalized Friday after a practice round on the course. The real golf gets underway Saturday at 11:00am with a shot gun style start to the championships. The second round kicks off Sunday at the same time.
