The Kentucky Wildcats and Windsor Lancers put on a quite a show on Sunday night in front of a capacity crowd at the St. Denis Centre in Windsor.
After a tight first half, the Wildcats pulled away in the second half and earned the 95-62 victory in game one of the 6th annual OUA/NCAA Tip-off Classic.
Freshman sensation Brandon Knight led the way for the Wildcats as he registered 31 points on 11 of 19 shooting and added 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the win.
On Sunday night, both teams got off to strong starts as they went back and forth with solid outside shooting and aggressive interior play.
The Lancers hung tight with the Wildcats and led a number of times throughout the first half in what was a very entertaining opening 20 minutes.
Windsor's
Isaac Kuon converted a three pointer late in the half to give Windsor a 33-30 lead. The Wildcats responded with a 13-2 run to end the half as they led 43-35 at the break.
The second half was all Kentucky as their size and depth started to wear down the Lancers. Brandon Knight continued his hot shooting as he knocked down a series of baskets that helped his team extend their lead to 20 points midway through the half.
Kentucky outscored Windsor 52-27 in the second half as they cruised to the 95-62 victory.
In addition to Brandon Knight's 31-point performance, Kentucky got 18 points and 12 rebounds from Darius Miller and 10 points and 6 rebounds from DeAndre Liggins.
Windsor was led by senior
Isaac Kuon who finished with 19 points and 4 rebounds.
Monty Hardware added 11 points and
Lien Phillip finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Justin Wiltshire chipped in with 9 points for the Lancers while
Andre Smyth added 9 points and 5 rebounds.
The 2010 OUA/NCAA Tip-Off Classic will resume on Monday night when the Kentucky Wildcats battle the Western Mustangs at 7pm at the St. Denis Centre. The final game of the 3-game Canadian tour for the Wildcats is Tuesday morning when the Lancers host the Wildcats at 11am.
