Kennedy, Lancers shine at East-West Bowl showcase

Some of the top players drawn from the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) ranks took to the field at TD Waterhouse Stadium on Saturday (May 12), competing in the 2012 CIS East West Bowl.

This was the fourth consecutive year that this the event, showcasing CIS football players eligible for next year's Canadian Football League draft, was held in London.

The Windsor Lancers were well represented with four players invited to participate in the game.

Lancer quarterback Austin Kennedy had a strong outing as he finished 18-for-23 with 142 passing yards for Team West which lost 24-16 to Team East.

Kennedy, who entered the game in the second quarter, also rushed for 89 yards.

Lancer defensive end Matt McGarva racked up six tackles to finish second on Team West. Windsor receiver Evan Pszczonak and defensive lineman Garrit Post were also on the West team.

On the field, the West squad got onto the scoreboard first with a pair of field goals early in the opening minutes of the game.

That lead however would prove to be short lived as the East rode the toe of their kicker Brett Lauther to a 12-8 lead at the half.

A 27-yard touchdown run by Acadia running back Zack Skibin, two point safety and another Lauther field goal over the course of the third quarter would effectively seal the win for Team East.
