Second annual Smile 4 Miles Tournament raises $37,000 for SickKids Foundation

The tournament raised $37,000 for SickKids Foundation
The second annual Zach D'Souza 'Smiles4Miles' 4v4 Soccer Tournament was held in Tecumseh on Saturday, May 5, and a total of $37,000 was raised in aid of research into children's cancers at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

The organizing committee would like to thank the Windsor-Essex Sports Community for the fantastic support given to this cause, as the tournament surpassed last year's fundraising total of $30,000.

A total of 118 teams and over 700 players competed in a total of 220 4-a-side soccer games in seven different divisions on the L'Essor and Tecumseh soccer fields.

The following teams were named champions of their respected divisions: Caboto Voyageurs in U12 Girls; Tecumseh Thunder and Lightning in U12 Boys; Golden Girls in U16 Girls; GTL in U16 Boys, Eat Cleat in Open Women, Hellenic Oldies in Open Men and Goonz in Open Co-Ed. The top fundraising teams were Zach's Markhamites and Bluehorses, and both Tecumseh Red Warriors and The Cowboys were chosen for the most creative uniforms.

This annual event is sponsored by several local businesses and organized in partnership with Ecole Secondaire L'Essor, Tecumseh Soccer Club, the University of Windsor, the Town of Tecumseh, and CBC Windsor.
