WINDSOR, Ont. - The Windsor Lancers men's hockey team is proud to announce its 2013-14 recruiting class for the upcoming season.
“I am really excited about this recruiting class,” said Head Coach
Kevin Hamlin. “We have addressed our concerns by getting bigger, adding more skill and (we) now have depth in the middle.”
The freshman class is headlined by former Windsor Spitfires captain
Saverio Posa, who helped the Spitfires to a third straight conference championship appearance in 2010-11. The defenceman played with the Guelph Storm this past season, tallying six assists and earning a plus-14, the strongest plus-minus of his junior career.
“Saverio has proven himself as an excellent player in the OHL and I have no doubt he will be a very important member of our team,” said Hamlin. “He played against all the other team's top players and was an excellent penalty killer for the Storm this year.”
Fellow blue-liner
Julian Luciani brings four years of OHL experience to the Lancers this fall, having played for Belleville, Ottawa, and Sarnia from 2008 to 2012. This past season, Luciani led the GOJHL's St. Catherines Falcons defencemen with 22 goals and 68 points, and quarterbacked the best power-play in junior 'B' hockey.
Right-winger
Mac McDonnell is set to join the Lancers after leading the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings in playoff points, picking up five goals and seven points in five post-season contests. The 6'4'' power forward played two seasons with the OHL's Erie Otters, accumulating 31 points in 124 games.
Sammy Banga will add some skill to the Lancers roster, as the winger totalled 51 points, including 21 goals, in 50 games played for Trenton in 2012-13. Banga also took home a Sutherland Cup Championship in 2010 playing for the LaSalle Vipers of the GOJHL.
Mike Christoue brings depth down the middle, as the stellar face-off man joins Windsor after recording 31 goals and 61 points in 47 games for the Niagara Falls Canucks (GOJHL).
Richard Cameron, another centreman out of Portage College is expected to earn a spot as a strong defensive centre for the Lancers. Cameron played four seasons in the SJHL where he tallied 50 points in 157 games, before joining Portage for the 2011-12 year.
“Our back-end is excellent and our two additions will solidify an already stellar group,” commented Hamlin. “It's important that the young men we bring in are of the same character (as) the group we have returning. This will be an exciting team to coach and I'm looking forward to a great year.”
