The Lancer women's soccer team advanced to the OUA quarter-finals Wednesday night after a 2-1 overtime win over the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton.
With the win, the Lancers advance to the OUA quarter-finals for the first time since 2011 and will face the Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm in Waterloo, ON.
After a scoreless first half, the host Marauders got on the board first with a goal from fourth year midfielder Maureen Mai in the 54th minute.
The Lancers didn't back down and after applying some heavy pressure on the Marauder goalkeeper Christina Abbatangelo,
Cassie Chretien scored her first of two on the night to tie the game in the 73rd minute.
With the score still tied after regulation, the Lancer and Marauders headed into two 15 minute overtime periods. The Lancers would only need nine of the thirty minutes to score the game winner. A breakaway pass from
Lacey Marcoux right to Chretien set her up beautifully to fire the ball past Abbatangelo.
The Lancer defense, and goaltender
Krystin Lawrence, buckled down for the remaining 20 minutes, holding back the charging Marauders to earn the win and advance to the quarter-finals on Sunday.
