The Lancer men's basketball team lost to the two top ranked teams in Canada on a weekend road trip to the nation's capital. On Friday, the Lancers fell 87-53 to the No. 1 Ottawa Gee Gees at Monpetit Hall, and 99-52 to the No. 2 Carleton Ravens on Saturday night.
With the losses, the Lancers fall to 4-3 on the season and are tied for first place in the OUA west division with the Laurier Golden Hawks.
On Friday after a tight first quarter, Ottawa's three-point shooting and ball movement helped the hosts to a 31-15 advantage midway through the second. Windsor continued to drive the paint on offence, but the Gee-Gees had three men inside to protect the rim and were quick to recover to the outside, limiting the Lancers to just five points in the second frame. Windsor trailed 37-18 at half time.
A pair of threes from
Mike Rocca had Windsor fired up early in the third quarter, however Ottawa responded with a dunk and a three-pointer to regain their momentum and a 20-point lead.
Against the Ravens, the Lancers were led by fifth year
Alex Campbell with 11 points and
Tyler Persaud with 8 points.
Windsor stuggled offensively from the start as the host Ravens out-scored the Lancers 33-10 in the opening quarter, en route to a 63-26 lead at the half. Windsor finally found their grove in the fourth quarter outscoring the hosts 17-10 in the final ten minutes. The Lancers also struggled defensively being out-rebounded 56-23.
Windsor will now break for the holidays and return to action on Saturday January 9th when they play the Brock Badgers in St. Catherine's. They return home to the St. Denis Centre on Saturday January 16th when they host the Algoma Thunderbirds at 8:00pm.
