Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball loses two road games

The Lancer women's basketball team lost a pair of road games over the weekend in the nation's capital.

On Friday night the Lancers fell 75-60 to the Ottawa Gee Gees at Monpetit Hall before dropping an 80-63 decision to the Carleton Ravens on Saturday. With the losses the Lancers fell to 4-3 on the season and are tied for first place in the OUA west division with the Western Mustangs.

First year Lancer Alyssa Cerino was the high scorer for Windsor with 10 points against the Gee Gees. Cheyanne Roger and Andrea Kiss were limited to a combined 11 points. The Lancers truly thrived from the free throw line, sinking 25-34, while Ottawa won the rebounding battle by a 39-33 margin.

Ottawa established control of the game early using strong offensive sets and excellent rebounding positioning to take a 44-23 lead heading into halftime.

Windsor drew within 12 points in the second half after three-pointers from Carly Steer with 3:15 to play, but Ottawa remained poised and a couple of late baskets secured the host win.

Against Carleton, Windsor opened the game with a 16-13 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Carleton pulled back into the contest with a 16-13 second quarter victory of their own to tie the game up at 29-29 in a defensive first-half battle.

The two teams shared near identical numbers through the opening twenty minutes, as Carleton connected on 37% (10-27) from the floor while Windsor hit 38.5% (10-26) of their looks.

In the second, Windsor neutralized Carleton's inside game up until the fourth quarter with the inside duo of Cheyanne Roger and Emily Prevost. The two third-year forwards went toe-to-toe with Heather Lindsay for control of the paint, as Roger and Prevost took turns guarding Carleton's go-to offensive weapon.

Unfortunately, Prevost fouled out with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds and Lindsay netted 14 of 24 points in the final stanza to lead the Ravens to victory.

The Lancers will now break for the holiday season and will return to action on Saturday January 9th when they travel to St. Catharine's to take on the Brock Badgers. Windsor returns home on Saturday January 16th when they host the Algoma Thunderbirds at 6:00pm at the St. Denis Centre.
