The University of Windsor men's hockey team battled the Laurier Golden hawks on Wednesday night in Windsor and came out with a 2-1 loss.
With the loss, the Lancers move to 10-9-3 on the year and remain in fifth place in a very tight OUA west division, while the Hawks improve to 10-11-0 and sit three points behind Windsor.
The first period was a fast start with both teams trading chances early on but both goalies stood tall and the score remained tied at zero after one.
The second period saw all three of the game's goals scored within three minutes of each other midway through the frame. Windsor got on the board first with a powerplay goal scored by
Eric Noel, assisted by
Scott Prier at 7:52 of the period.
The Golden Hawks wasted no time tying the game up scoring 16 seconds later when Nick Tetley fed the puck to Mitch Wright.
The Golden Hawks' Jordan Delaurier then scored the game winner at 9:12 of the period to give the visitors the lead for the remainder of the game.
Despite the second period becoming hostile, the third period saw only one penalty dished out as both teams battled to find the back of the net.
Lancer goaltender
Blake Richard finished the game with 26 saves in the loss, while Hawks goaltender Colin Furlong made 36 saves to register the win.
Windsor will now hit the road on Saturday to face the Ryerson Rams at 7:30pm in Toronto. The game can be seen live at
