Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey swept by visiting Gaels

Facing the Queen's Gaels for the first time since 2013, the Lancer men's hockey team had their hands full this weekend at South Windsor Arena.

The Blue & Gold dropped both games to the visiting Gaels, with scores of 4-3 on Friday night and 1-0 on Saturday. Windsor is now 5-5-0 on the year and are tied for fourth place in the OUA west division, while the Gaels improve to 7-2-1 and sit in second place in the east divison.

Friday

After an hour delay to the start of the game due to a piece of broken glass in the boards, Windsor had a slow start in the first as Queen's took a 2-0 lead on goals by Alex Stothart and Ryan Bloom.

The Lancers finally got on the board in the second period at 6:56 when Kyle Hope banged in a rebound assisted by Chadd Bauman. However, the Gaels restored their goal lead at 11:03 of the second on a power play goal scored by Warren Steele.

Not to be outdone Windsor cut the lead in half at 16:34 on a goal scored by Steve Anthony, with the assist being credited to Tyson Ness. The Lancers then tied the game 16 seconds into the third period on a beautiful breakaway goal by Justice Dundas

Queen's did not back down and restored their lead three minutes later with a goal from forward Eric Ming.

Kris Joyce and Blake Richard shared goaltending duties for the Lancers and made 37 saves between the pair of them, while Kevin Bailie got the win for Queen's with 35 saves.

Saturday

Saturday's game was a much tighter affair with the game remaining scoreless through two periods.

Queen's Spencer Abraham broke the deadlock at 3:49 of the third period, accepting a pass from Patrick Downe and Darcy Grenaway to put the Gaels up by one. The Lancers continued to apply pressure throughout the third, but took a few penalties in the frame and were unable to capitalize on any opportunities.

Joyce had a better night in net for Windsor making 32 saves, while Bailie earned his second shutout of the year making 29 saves.
