Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey swept by No. 5 Redman

The Lancer men's hockey team are still looking for their first with of the 2017 calendar year after dropping a pair of games to the visiting McGill Redman this weekend at South Windsor Arena.

The Lancers were shut out in both contests, with the Redman earning a 4-0 victory on Friday night and a 5-0 win on Saturday.

Windsor (10-9-2) move into a tie for third place in the west division with the Laurier Golden Hawks, while No. 5 McGill (14-3-2) retain sole possession of first place in the east.

FRIDAY
In their first meeting since March 2015, the Lancers and Redman played a solid controlled first period that ended in a scoreless draw. In the second, the Redmen exploded scoring all four of their goals while taking advantage of special teams, scoring two of those goals with the extra man. The winning goal came early in the frame, when Nathan Chiarli squeaked the puck past Lancer goaltender Kris Joyce.

The Lancers rebounded in the third with a number of scoring opportunities but were unable to get past Redman goaltender Louis-Philip Guindon.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow night in game two of the weekend doubleheader. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:30pm at South Windsor Arena and can be seen live at www.oua.tv.

SATURDAY
McGill took control of the game early as their starting line-up kicked off the scoring five minutes into the first period. Alexandre Sills accepted a pass from Francis Lambert-Lemay and Jan Kaminsky and put the puck up under the cross bar at 5:07.

Six minutes later, Samuel Tremblay came in alone and used his backhand to put the puck over the left shoulder of Lancer goaltender Blake Richard. After head coach Kevin Hamlin swapped out Richard for Kris Joyce, the Redmen added a power play goal from Nathan Chiarlitti at 14:07 to close out the period's scoring.

The Lancers had a better second period that included plenty of scoring opportunities. They spent a majority of the period on special teams but neither club was able to light up the scoreboard. Joyce stood on his head throughout the frame making 9 of his 23 saves in the period, while the Lancers did not let McGill goaltender Jacob Gervais-Chouinard get mush rest as he turned aside ten shots.

The teams got feisty in the third period as both clubs became frustrated at not being able to find the back of the net. McGill added their fourth of the game as Windsor was killing off a six minute penalty midway through the period. Rock Regimbald was credited with the goal at 13:52 while assists went to Mathieu Pompei and Frederic Gamelin.

Redman Sam Tremblay added an empty net goal with less than a minute to play to close out the scoring.

After three games in five days, the Lancers are hoping a week off can rest them up and get them back in the win column next Saturday when they host the York Lions. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:30pmn at South Windsor Arena, with the game being available live at www.oua.tv.
