Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Strong second half lifts Lancers over Blues

The Lancer men's basketball was looking to get back into the win column after a tough loss to the Ryerson Rams at the St. Denis Centre on Friday night. Windsor welcomed the Toronto Varsity Blues to town seeking to split their weekend series against schools from the GTA. After a close first half the Lancers used a hot second half to run away with the game, 94-79.

Windsor is now 2-1 on the season and sit in second place in the OUA west division, while the Blues suffered their first loss of the year and are also 2-1 in the east division.

GAME STATS
Mike Rocca and Lucas Orlita combined for half of the Lancers points with Rocca scoring 27 to lead all scorers. Orlita chipped in with 20 points including a 4-7 performance from beyond the arc.

Both teams had five players score double digits as Anthony Zrvnar and Marcus Jones scored 14 and 13 points respectively for the Lancers. Chris Poloniato came off the bench to put up ten.

For the Blues, Sage Usher (16), Nikola Paradina (16), Reilly Reid (15), Christopher Barrett (12) and, Daniel Johanasson (10), each notched 10 or more for the visiting team.

Despite the loss, Toronto out-rebounded the Lancers 35-29.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers got things off to a good start as Orlita continued his success from beyond the arc, connecting on both his first quarter opportunities and shooting 75 per cent from three on the half. The Lancers were able to work their way to a halftime lead despite being outrebounded 25-14. Fortunately for the Blue & Gold, the high scoring duo of Orlita and Rocca, combined for 22 points to put the Lancers up by two, 40-38.

In the second half, the Lancers would step up their game on offense.  Windsor used a 66 per cent second half shooting performance to extend what was a slim half time lead.  In the end, Rocca and Orlita combined for 47 of the Lancers 94 points on the way to leading their team to 94-79 final.
