In a rare Wednesday contest, the Lancer men's hockey team headed up to Waterloo and fell to the Waterloo Warriors 6-3 at the Columbia Ice Field.
Â
With the loss, the Lancers are now 6-9-6 and remain in eighth place in the west division standings. The Warriors move to 6-11-3 on the year.
Â
Windsor opened the game strong scoring a pair of goals less than five minutes apart to take a 2-0 lead with under seven minutes to play in the opening frame. Captain
Blake Blondeel opened the scoring at 8:58 with assists going to sophomore
Todd Ratchford and rookie
Alex Friesen.
Â
Friesen earned his second point of the game at 13:20 of the period when he notched his fourth goal of the year to give the Lancers a two goal lead.
Â
Less than a minute later, the Warriors would bring the game within one but it wouldn't be long before the Lancer once again found the back of the net, this time with a sniper from senior
Chris Scott. Windsor went into the first intermission up 3-2.
Â
After a scoreless second period, the Warriors came out strong scoring four goals in the final frame, including two short-handed markers from Can Nicoll to earn the win and leave the Lancers still looking for their first win of 2018.
