Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Lancer comeback falls short in loss to Waterloo

After a hard fought battle, the Lancers women's hockey team fell 4-3 to the Waterloo Warriors at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex. After trailing by three goals, the Lancers were unable to complete their comeback as they continue to chase their first season win.

GAME STATS
Meredith Goldhawk and Rachel Chantler led the Lancers offence, with them both putting up a goal and an assist.

Windsor goaltenders Jaydlin Spooner and Kristen Swiatochik kept them in the game as the blue and gold were outshot 47-24.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers found themselves down a player after taking an early interference penalty minutes into the game. The Warriors power play unit were quick to capitalize on the opportunity, putting them up by one.

Waterloo continued to put the pressure on Windsor, outshooting them in the period 17-7.

Windsor came out of the break with Rachel Chantler being sent to the box for a cross checking penalty a minute into the period. Waterloo controlled the pressure early in the period, but Windsor was able to hold off and kill the penalty.

Waterloo's Cynthia Cavanagh got the second goal of the night for the Warriors halfway through the second period, sending the puck just under the Lancer crossbar.

Halfway through the period the pressure turned in favour of the Lancers. The blue and gold saw several scoring opportunities, but it was Goldhawk's unassisted goal on the penalty kill that put Windsor on the board to end the period trailing by one.

The Lancers were caught flat footed to start the third period, and as a result saw Waterloo score two back to back goals for a three goal lead.

Waterloo's third goal saw a goalie change for the blue and gold, with Jaydlin Spooner replacing Kristen Swiatochik who ended the game with 31 saves.

A Waterloo body checking penalty halfway through the period gave the Lancers the edge they needed to start mounting a comeback. Jaclyn Kouleas found the back of the net on the power play, followed minutes later by Reagan Kaufman putting the puck past the Warrior's goaltender to bring the Lancers within one with three minutes left in the game.

The Warriors held off Windsor's attack to secure the 4-3 win.
