After only three short days, the Lancer football team was back at it Friday night as they headed up the 401 to take on the York Lions in Toronto. Windsor came out of the gates slowly, and despite a valiant effort late in the game, were unable to overcome their earlier slips, falling to the host Lions 29-22.
Â
The Blue & Gold are now 0-3 on the season as they return home next week and host the Guelph Gryphons at Alumni Field on Saturday September 15th.

GAME STATS
Quarterback
Sam Girard had another good game for Windsor, going 20-for-36 and 243 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions.
Â
Alex Bornais led the Lancers in the air with 99 yards on five receptions, while
Marcus Kentner took charge of the running game with 67 yards on 14 carries.
Â
Defensively,
Daniel Metcalfe was outstanding for the Lancers, finished with a game high 10.5 tackles.
Â
The hosts were led by QB Brett Hunchak, who earned the victory with 26 completions on 38 attempts, 263 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Hunchak's brother Colin was his favoured target as the sibling led all receivers with 116 yards on nine catches and a TD.
Â
GAME FLOW
The Lancers began with the ball and looked to be in good shape on the first drive of the game, showing a push up front that was sorely lacking against the Ravens last week.
Marcus Kentner and company marched their way into field goal range; unfortunately, coming away with no points after a missed field goal attempt.Â
Â
The Lions capitalized on the misstep with three unanswered scoring drives. Kayden Johnson opened the scoring for York with a rushing touchdown, which was later followed Brett Hunchak tossing a touchdown to his brother Colton, and Brett calling his own number early in the second to go up 21-0 on the Lancers.
Â
The Lancers quickly answered the third drive with a march of their own, this time going all the way as Girard found
Tristan Carter wide open in the end zone. On the ensuing York possession the Lancer defense forced back to back safeties to shrink a 21 point deficit to 10 at halftime, 21-11.
Â
In the second half, the Lancers shrank the lead a little more when Girard found Brenden Speller in the end zone for his second touchdown of the day pulling the Blue & Gold to within three. Unfortunately, the parity was short-lived as Brett Hunchak tossed his second major of the day to Alex Daley. Despite a late Lancer field goal, Windsor fell in Toronto, 29-22.
