The Windsor Lancers closed out their 2019 schedule strong with a 98-77 drubbing of the Guelph Gryphons at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse Wednesday night.

Freshman guard
Shakael Pryce was impressive as were each of his teammates in a complete team effort. The win puts the Lancers above .500, sitting a 6-5 heading into the new year.

GAME STATS
Shakael Pryce had a fantastic outing, leading all scorers with 25 points on 56 per cent shooting. The Gryphons were led by Malcom Glanville who dropped 23 points on 50 per cent shooting.
Â
Thomas Kennedy double-doubled pairing his 24 points with 14 rebounds on the night.
Â
The Lancers were +11 in turnovers, turning over the Gryphons 19 times while only committing eight giveaways themselves.

GAME FLOW
The Windsor Lancers blew out of the gate to start the game, jumping out to a 10-0 lead in front of a raucous Lancers crowd. The Lancers shot 52 per cent the field and played with high energy. The game's opening minutes featured a rejection at the rim and then a slam dunk on the other end by
Thomas Kennedy as the Lancers cruised out to a 29-14 lead after one quarter of play.
Â
After a tough first quarter from three, the Lancers turned red hot early in the frame, propelling the Lancers to a 30 point quarter. With three scorers in double-digits before the half, Windsor looked as though they might run the Gryphons out of the gym but Guelph hung tight. Late in the quarter the Gryphons finally answered the growing Lancers lead but the hosts had already built quite the lead. Despite the late run Windsor was still in control, up 59-37 at half.
Â
The Lancers opened the second half a step slow on defense, allowing the Gryphons to open the third quarter with a 5-0 run. After answering the Gryphons run, the blue and gold got some momentum going after a thunderous and-1 dunk by Kennedy, his second of the game. The slam injected some energy into the Lancers that helped them build an 80-59 lead after three.
Â
The fourth quarter was mostly mop up duty as the lead remained fairly consistent throughout. The Lancers kept their foot on the gas for the whole quarter though, nearly reaching 100 points but settling for two shy in a 98-77 win over Guelph.

QUOTE FROM THE COACH
"
Shakael Pryce, a freshman who controlled the group, controlled the pace," said head coach
Chris Cheng when asked who stood out. "Shak was great, Telloy was great early, I thought our bench was unbelievable today. Gotta give credit to the bench, they were the ones who kept the pressure going and the scoring going, much credit to our bench."
