The Windsor Lancers dropped their second home game of the season in an exciting match that was much closer than the 3-0 (23-25, 13-25, 18-25) score would suggest against the Guelph Gryphons Saturday night.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers started fast in the first set, playing aggressive offense and tough defence. Leading 9-6, the Lancers forced the visiting Gryphons into an early timeout. Coming out of the timeout Guelph staged quite the run, erasing the deficit and turning it into an advantage of their own, leading 16-12 at the technical. The Lancers, however, stayed close behind, with some strong play from first year left side
Erin Dane. Unfortunately, despite taking a late lead, the Lancers couldn't hang on to it and dropped the first set 25-23.
Â
A strong stint from the service line from former Lancer
Jade Ziebarth propelled the Gryphons out an early 4-0 lead, prompting coach
Lucas Hodgson to take an early timeout. Out of the timeout the Lancers stemmed the Gryphon run but Guelph was still ahead as both teams approached the technical, 13-9 in favour of the visitors. The Gryphons went into the technical timeout with momentum on a 3-0 run, leading the Lancers 16-9. Out of the break the Lancers played tough but couldn't match the Gryphon's execution, falling behind 2-0 after losing the second set 25-15.
Â
The Lancers scored first in the third set with nice little touch from Dane, but the Gryphons answered quick and made it known that they wanted it done in three. The early going of the set was a back and forth, with neither team retaining service long as the teams remained tied 11-11. Â The Lancers got to the technical in the lead, 16-15. Unfortunately, coming out of the timeout, the Gryphons flashed the skill that won them their first two sets, surging ahead and take the set 25-18, winning the match 3-0.
