They waited until the last game of the season, but the Lancers women's hockey team took down the No. 9 Western Mustangs and acquired their first win in regulation time.

Lexi Contratto and
Rachel Chantler, end their careers with the blue and gold on a high note. The win comes on top of a 3-1 upset against the Mustangs, who are entering the playoffs sitting in second place in the OUA standings.

GAME STATS
Jaydlin Spooner played a pivotal role in the Lancers win, saving 34 of the Mustangs 35 shots, for an impressive 0.971 save percentage. On the other side of the ice, Western goaltender Carmen Lasis stopped 21 of the 23 shots she faced.

Jessica Gribbon, Alex Reiter and
Emma Welburn were the goal scorers for Windsor, while Rachel Armstrong scored the sole goal of the night for the Mustangs.

GAME FLOW
The game looked hopeless for the Lancers after an early body checking penalty saw the Mustangs power play score within the first two minutes of the game.

However the blue and gold battled their way back, and
Alix Reiter found the back of the net early in the second period to tie the game.

A Western interference penalty minutes later saw the Lancers go on the man advantage. Redirecting a shot from
Morgan Simard,
Emma Welburn capitalized on the opportunity, putting the Lancers in the lead with 11:57 left in the second period.

With more than half the game to be played, Windsor locked down defensively, However it was Spooner who kept the Mustangs at bay, as they struggled to get past her powerful goaltending.

Jessica Gribbon sealed the game with her empty net goal in the closing seconds of the game, securing the elusive win the Lancers have been chasing all season.
