Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lancers fall to Western on Breast Cancer Awareness Day

The Windsor Lancers dropped a three set match (24-26, 15-25, 19-25) to the Western Mustangs Saturday afternoon in the 13th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day.

The Lancers looked strong in the first set but couldn't carry the momentum, looking overmatched in the final two sets. The loss drops the Lancers to 8-8 on the season.

GAME STATS
Western's Kristina Curcin led the game in kills with 13 and only one error. The Lancers were led by rookie Yaila Sealy and her nine kills to three errors.

The Lancers were outmatched at the net with Western recording six team blocks to Windsor's two.

GAME FLOW
The first two points of the match went to the Mustangs to get things going, however the Lancers got going in short order and ran out to an early lead, punctuated by Sealy's ace at 6-4. Western bucked down though and after an entertaining back and forth, it was the visitors with a 16-13 lead at the technical. Coach Hodgson's adjustments at the tech worked as the blue and gold came out on a 4-1 run, tying the set at 17 and forcing Western to take a timeout. Though the Lancers looked like they would win the race, leading with set point, the Mustangs stole the set late with the help of Lancers errors, 26-24 over the blue and gold.

Things got off to a rough start for the hosts in set two, falling behind 6-2 early and being forced into an early timeout to talk things over. The Lancers continued to struggle coming out of the timeout, allowing Western to set up a productive stint at the service line, pushing their lead to 12-3  and forcing Coach Hodgson into a second timeout. At the technical though, the Lancers were still in trouble, down 16-5.  Though Windsor came out on an impressive run after the timeout, it proved to be too little, too late as the Mustangs took a 2-0 set lead after a 25-15 win.

The third set was probably the blue and gold's best start with Lexi Pollard injecting some energy into the team with a strong kill early. Unfortunately the Mustangs continued to be one step ahead of the Lancers, grabbing a lead early and taking it to the technical, 16-10. The Mustangs' size and defence was giving the blue and gold trouble all afternoon and the third set was no different, with the Mustangs taking it, 25-19 to secure the 3-0 win.
