In a highly anticipated rematch, the Lancer men's basketball team traveled to Guelph to take on the Gryphons in the second game of their home-and-home series this week.
Â
It was another nail-biter, but this time the blue and gold came out on the wrong side of the score, falling 80-77 to the hosts.
Â
Windsor is now 1-1 on the season heading into week two of the regular season.
Â
STATS
Shakeal Pryce led the Lancers in scoring with 29 points, while also going 66% from 3-point range.
Thomas Kennedy had 21 rebounds and 19 points.
Â
Guelph was led by Rasheed Weekes with 24 points.
Â
GAME FLOW
The Lancers came into the game crashing the paint and defending the perimeter from Guelph's long-range attack. The Lancers led throughout the first as they were able to match the Gryphons from beyond the arc.
Â
Pryce would continue to lead the Lancer offensive attack to start the second knocking down a long-range three to quiet the Gryphons fans. The Lancers defensive play was spectacular, and three minutes into the second, the Lancers forced a shot clock violation with their stout coverage.
Â
The Gryphons were forced to take a timeout in hopes to stop the Lancer's electric run. Windsor, however, could not be stopped as they continued their run and went into halftime with a large 52-37 lead.
          Â
Guelph came into the third quarter by hitting a three that started their 15-point comeback. They brought the game to within five points of the blue and gold before Pryce hit another three in an attempt to silence the comeback.
Â
The hosts tied the game with three minutes left to play before going up 78-74. A Jordan Fullerton three made it a one-point game, but the Gryphons hit another field goal to secure the 80-77 comeback win.
