GAME FLOW
The Lancers got off to a good start pushing the pace for quick touches of the ball. As both squads got a feel for each other's approaches,
Devin Hernandez made early plays to make moves on the offensive side, even colliding with Western's goalkeeper Dino Bontis from too much momentum towards the box. Due to an injury between two Western players, the game was delayed ensuring the health of the individuals involved and injury time was added. When play resumed, the Lancers and Mustangs looked to get back into the right mindset and make their mark in this matchup. Near the end of the period,
Brandon Gaudreau made two back-to-back solid saves to keep the Mustangs out of the net. After 45 minutes of regulation, the game remained scoreless between Windsor and Western.
Â
Following the intermission, Windsor and Western came back refreshed and prepared to strike. As the athletes started to play with more aggression, the challenges resulted in several yellow cards handed out, mostly on the Windsor side. Finally for a late goal in the 65th minute, Mustang defender Kyle Gibson made it past Gaudreau to put Western up on the board first.
Devin Hernandez continued to dominant on the field and battle for turnovers and possession, eventually getting a goal of his own to tie the game 1-1 by a pass from
Robert Alionte. With the pressure on, the teams searched for one last effort to break the tie but drew a 1-1 matchup.
