The Windsor Lancer women's hockey team faced off against the Waterloo Warriors for the second time this weekend battling the black and gold inside of the Columbia Ice Field Arena in Waterloo.

In a game that was decided in a shootout less than 24 hours prior where the Lancers emerged victorious thanks to the outstanding play of
Kristen Swiatoschik, who boasted a record-setting performance earning the day off for the immediate rematch, was quickly followed up by a 5-3 loss to the host Warriors on Saturday afternoon.

Maggie Peterson netted her third goal of the weekend against the Warriors and had two assists leading the way for the Lancers in the tight loss to Waterloo.

While Lancer captain
Jessica Gribbon scored her fifth of the campaign on a powerplay marker from Peterson and picked up an assist on
Elissa Benjamin's late game goal which was her third on the year.

Between the pipes in the Lancer crease,
Holly Borrett had the reins for the Saturday afternoon matinee and made 23 saves in the loss.Â

Waterloo was led by Carly Orth who scored two goals propelling her team to the revenge victory over Windsor. Meanwhile Warriors netminder Kara Mark backstopped her team to the eventual win with 20 saves in this outing.

GAME FLOW
In the first period both teams traded scoring opportunities which were turned aside by both goaltenders Mark and Borrett respectively. However, Waterloo would open the scoring at the 19:52 mark when Jessie Fennell slipped her second of the season past Borrett on the powerplay to give the hometown team a 1-0 lead on the visiting Lancers which stayed intact through to the first intermission.

The second period saw the Lancers notch an equalizer off the stick of Peterson who buried her tenth of the season by Mark from
Jaden Cherry and
Keana McKibbin at 2:20 of the second tying the game up at 1-1.

Just over two minutes later at 4:49, the Lancers would grab the lead from Gribbon's goal which came from Peterson on the power play and put the Lancers out in front 2-1.Â

Waterloo would respond as at 8:44 Carley Olivier would score for the black and gold to deadlock the contest at 2-2 heading into the second intermission after forty minutes of play.

The opening frame of the third period stayed quiet until the 7-minute mark when the Warriors broke the tie courtesy of Brooklyn Cole who notched a shot past Borrett to restore a one-goal Warrior lead on Waterloo's Senior Day game at 3-2.Â

Orth would then attack the Lancer goal becoming the story of the game for the Warriors as she scored at the 14:52 mark of the third to put her team ahead by two goals at 4-2.

Windsor would score not long after the fourth Warrior goal at 16:54 when Benjamin found a shot that made it into the Waterloo net cutting the deficit down to 4-3.Â

Although in the end, with the goaltender pulled and the extra attacker out on the ice, the blue and gold would forfeit an empty netter to the Warriors when Orth polished off the Lancers putting the puck into the open net at 18:17 securing a 5-3 victory for Waterloo.Â

With the loss, the Lancers fall to 15-10-1-0 on the season while the Warriors improve to 20-5-0-1, first in the OUA West as both teams split the weekend with a win and loss each.Â

The blue and gold will now head home to prepare for their final regular season game at home against the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday February 18th at 4:00pm at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.
