Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Lancers trade wins against Ottawa rivals

The Windsor Lancer men's hockey team split their weekend in the nation's capital. On Friday, the Lancers made an early impact to dominate 5-3 against the Ravens. On Saturday, at the other end of the Rideau Canal, the tables turned as the Gee-Gees skated away with a 7-1 win over the Lancers.

FRIDAY STATS

Kirk Mullen tallied 2 goals for the blue and gold.

Cayden Faust, Travis Hensrud, and Brady Hinz each added a Lancer tally.

Max Donoso made 28 saves on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED FRIDAY

Windsor set the tone early when the Lancers invaded the Ravens' nest early with a triad of goals, which proved difficult for Carleton to overcome.

Hinz capitalized on an early Raven's defensive breakdown, jumping on an open puck in the slot to open the scoring. Less than one minute later, Hensrud found the back of the net off a pass from Ray Hamlin to double the lead. Kirk Mullen added a third goal less than a minute later, sneaking a shot from a wide angle past the Carleton goaltender.

With 5 minutes to go in the frame, Carleton's Steven Bacovsky came out from between the pipes to clear the puck but could not get back in time as Ray Hamlin and Hensrud intercepted the puck and connected with Faust to make the score 4-0. However, with just over 1 minute remaining, Carleton cracked their egg to make the score 4-1.

In the second period, teams exchanged goals with Mullen threading a shot under the glove of Bacovsky to add the Lancer's fifth tally of the night.

In the third period, Carleton found the back of the net once more to make the final score 5-3 for Windsor.

SATURDAY STATS

Matt McNamara scored 1 goal for the Lancers, assisted by Brady Hinz and David Jesus.

HOW IT HAPPENED SATURDAY

The Gee-Gees stayed true to their name, being the first horse out of the gate, scoring 2 unanswered goals in the opening period. They continued to press in the second, potting 2 more to make it 4-0 heading into the final period.

In the third period, McNamara got Windsor on the board, converting on a pass from Hinz and Jesus. However, Ottawa responded with another goal and capped off the night with 2 more, handing the Lancers a 7-1 loss.
