The University of Windsor Lancers women's soccer team closed out their 2025 regular season by taking on the Western Mustangs in a home-and-home series on Friday (Oct. 10) and Saturday (Oct. 11) night, drawing 0-0 on Friday at home and falling 2-0 on Saturday in London, Ont.
FRIDAY
In their final home regular season game of 2025, the Lancers looked to catch up to the second-place Mustangs in the OUA West division. Western came out strong, with two corner kicks in the first ten minutes and four altogether in the first half, but Lancers keeper
Izzy Barrette made a series of key saves to keep visitors off the scoresheet.
Windsor got their legs under them as the second half began, getting a shot on goal and generating offense on a corner kick. The Western defense reciprocated the Lancers efforts from the first half and prevented the Lancers from generating many close chances, including a save by Mustangs keeper Samantha St. Croix on a shot by fifth-year striker
Kailyn Robertson.
Western put on more pressure as the match neared a close, but despite four more corner kicks they were unable to get a ball through to Barrette, and the game ended scoreless after ninety minutes of play.
Barrette made three saves on the night to earn the clean sheet, while St. Croix made one. Sophia Saville had all three of Western's shots on target.
SATURDAY
On Saturday evening at Western Alumni Stadium, the two southwestern Ontario foes faced off one last time in the regular season. The game started with chances for both teams early on, with Western putting on shot on goal, saved by Barrette, and Windsor generating two corner kicks and a shot.
The first goal of the weekend came off the foot of Reese Fowler of the Mustangs, as her seventh tally of the season gave Western a lead in the 17
th minute. Fowler's goal went to the legs of the Mustangs, as the next ten minutes saw them take three shots, one of which made it to the net and was turned aside by Barrette.
Mara Sanauceanu doubled the Mustang lead in the 36
th minute, scoring her first goal of the season, with Fowler drawing an assist. Windsor had a strong response in the closing minutes of the first half, but were unable to capitalize before the whistle.
The Mustangs galloped to a 2-0 win in the second half, putting lots of pressure on the Lancers to prevent any comeback, with five shots in the final 45 minutes.
