Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

High-scoring weekend secures Lancers capital sweep

The University of Windsor Lancers women's basketball team closed out their 2025 schedule with a 77-64 win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the Toldo Lancer Centre on Saturday (Nov. 29) afternoon.

GAME FLOW
Windsor opened the game with strong pace and efficient shooting, taking a 24–19 lead after the first quarter and adding to it with a 17–16 second frame to enter halftime up 41–35. The Lancers broke the game open in the third, outscoring Ottawa 21–15 behind improved ball movement and interior scoring. Ottawa searched for answers in the fourth but was held to just 14 points as Windsor maintained control on both ends to secure the 13-point victory.

Windsor's performance was defined by rebounding dominance, timely three-point shooting, and a major advantage at the free-throw line. The Lancers pulled down 40 boards to Ottawa's 29, hit nine threes, and converted 87.0% of their free throws, compared to the Gee-Gees' 33.3% at the stripe. Ottawa stayed competitive early with some efficient perimeter scoring, but Windsor's defensive pressure and second-chance opportunities gradually created separation.

STATS
Windsor was led by Julia Chiarot, who poured in 22 points on 7-of-16 shooting while adding five rebounds and four assists. Leah Tate followed closely with 21 points, including three triples, and collected seven rebounds continuing her massive weekend on the offensive end. Kali Grootenboer delivered a standout double-double of 19 points and a game-high 15 rebounds to go along with four blocks, giving her a seven-game double-double streak. Teighan Stoukas contributed nine points, five rebounds, and four steals, guiding the perimeter defense.

For Ottawa, Allie McCarthy led the way with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Bailey Russell added 20 points on 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. Ivany Rheault-Langué chipped in 12 points and three steals in the loss.
