The University of Windsor Lancers women's hockey team dropped a 4–1 decision to the Toronto Metropolitan Bold on Friday (Jan. 10) night at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex in Windsor, Ont.
STATS
Windsor held a significant edge in shots, outshooting TMU 47–24, but Bold goaltender Katie Frost stood tall, stopping 46 of 47 shots to earn the win. Hannah Hatt scored the lone goal for the Lancers on the power play late in the third period, with Makayla Mailhot picking up the assist. Rebecca Noble made 20 saves in goal for Windsor. TMU's offense was paced by Britni Yammine, Ahalya Julien-Medeiros, Neely Van Volsen, and Megan Bergmanis, while Alizee LeBlanc recorded three assists.
GAME FLOW
TMU struck early in the opening period, opening the scoring midway through the frame when Britni Yammine finished a play set up by Jade LeBlanc. The Bold added to their lead later in the period on the power play, as Ahalya Julien-Medeiros capitalized to make it 2–0 heading into the first intermission.
The second period was a defensive battle, with Windsor generating sustained pressure and multiple scoring chances. Despite controlling play and spending much of the frame in the offensive zone, the Lancers were unable to solve Frost, and the score remained unchanged after 40 minutes.
The Bold extended their lead early in the third, as Neely Van Volsen scored less than a minute into the period, followed by Megan Bergmanis adding an insurance marker midway through the frame. Windsor continued to push and was finally rewarded late, when Hannah Hatt converted on the power play with just 37 seconds remaining to break the shutout. Despite the late goal and a strong territorial advantage throughout the game, the Lancers couldn't complete the comeback, as TMU skated away with the 4–1 victory.
