The University of Windsor Lancers women's basketball team earned a dominant road victory over the Waterloo Warriors, defeating the hosts 81–47 on Friday, January 16 at PAC Gym in Waterloo, Ont. Windsor set the tone early and never looked back, using a balanced offensive attack and stifling defence to improve to 11–3 on the season.
The Lancers controlled the tempo from the opening quarter, holding a narrow 21–18 lead after the first before creating separation in the second. Windsor outscored Waterloo 19–13 in the second quarter to take a 40–31 advantage into halftime. Any hopes of a Warriors comeback were shut down in the third, as the Lancers held Waterloo to just three points in the frame while pouring in 21 of their own. Windsor continued to build on the lead in the fourth quarter, closing out the game with a 20–13 advantage to seal the 34-point win.
Defense and efficiency defined the game for Windsor. The Lancers shot 44.8% from the field and an impressive 45.5% from beyond the arc, while limiting Waterloo to just 26.4% shooting overall and 15.4% from three-point range. Windsor also forced 24 Waterloo turnovers and recorded 16 steals, turning defense into consistent offensive opportunities. On the glass, Windsor held a 37–28 rebounding edge and outscored the Warriors in every quarter.
Kali Grootenboer led the way for the Lancers with a game-high 20 points and a team-best 11 rebounds, adding two blocks in a strong all-around performance as she continues her double-double streak to ten games. Leah Tate chipped in 14 points, five steals, and four rebounds, while Makenzie Fineman provided a spark off the bench with 10 points. Julia Chiarot contributed nine points, seven rebounds, and three steals, and Windsor saw scoring contributions from 10 different players in the win.
For Waterloo, Yemi Oladipo paced the offense with 11 points, while Kymora Stafford added 10 points. Jaime Newell led the Warriors on the boards with nine rebounds, and Olivia Tomlin dished out three assists, but Waterloo struggled to find offensive rhythm against Windsor's pressure throughout the night.
With the victory, the Lancers improve to 11–3 on the 2025-26 OUA season. Windsor will look to carry the momentum forward as they stay in Waterloo, with their next game set for Saturday (Jan. 17) night at 6 p.m. against the Laurier Golden Hawks.
