The University of Windsor Lancers women's hockey team earned a commanding 5–0 home victory over the Nipissing Lakers on Friday (Feb. 13) night, delivering a complete performance at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex to clinch a spot in the 2026 McCaw Cup playoffs. Windsor struck early and erupted for four goals in the second period to take full control, while shutting down Nipissing's attack to secure the emphatic shutout win.
STATS
Windsor held the advantage in shots, outshooting Nipissing 38–26. Lancer goaltender Rebecca Noble was perfect between the pipes, stopping all 26 shots she faced to record her second shutout victory of the season. Nipissing's Alexandra Lehmann made 17 saves on 21 shots in 27:35 of action before Jordan Sladics turned aside 16 of 17 shots in relief.
Offensively, Sierra Moreau led the way with two goals, including one on the power play. Lerissa Stevenson contributed a goal and an assist, while Teagan Paré and Rowan Hu each tallied a goal. Keana McKibbin recorded two assists, and Lizzie Bird, Elissa Benjamin, Bailey Radovich, Madison Hollohan, and Makayla Mailhot each chipped in a helper.
"Super proud of the girls - one thing about this team is that we've really come together and worked hard as a team and play for each other," said Moreau, whose two goals mark the first multi-goal game of her OUA career.
GAME FLOW
Windsor opened the scoring midway through the first period, as Paré finished a two-on-one set up by Mailhot to give the Lancers a 1–0 lead heading into the intermission. The Lancers limited Nipissing to just seven shots in the opening frame while establishing steady offensive pressure.
The second period saw Windsor take over. Stevenson doubled the lead on a quick shot over the shoulder of Lehmann and under the bar. Just 45 seconds later, Hu pounced on her own rebound to make it 3–0. Moreau extended the advantage to 4–0, firing home a loose puck in the slot. Late in the frame, Moreau struck on a long shot on the power play to cap a four-goal outburst and give Windsor a 5–0 cushion after two.
With a comfortable lead in the third, the Lancers focused on defensive structure and puck management. Noble turned aside all nine shots she faced in the final frame, preserving the shutout and sealing the 5–0 victory.
UP NEXT
The Lancers will look to carry the momentum from this dominant home performance into their final regular season game on Saturday, Febuary 14 against the York Lions. The team will look to carry this momentum forward with playoffs now in sight.
"One big thing for our team has been play hard and play gritty, so just carrying that to the postseason is really important to us," Moreau added.
