Men's hockey clinches first in the OUA West with win at Lakehead

The University of Windsor Lancers men's hockey team earned a 4–2 road victory over the Lakehead Thunderwolves in their final regular season game on Saturday (Feb.14) night at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ont. Windsor built momentum early and carried it through the night, striking in every period to secure the two points which gives them the OUA West division title for the 2025-26 OUA season.

STATS 
Windsor outshot Lakehead 32–29 in the contest, including a 14-shot second period. Max Donoso turned aside 27 of 29 shots to earn the win in goal. At the other end, Christian Cicigoi made 28 saves on 32 shots in the loss. Keegan McMullen led the way offensively with two goals, while Aaron Shaw recorded a goal and two assists. Ray Hamlin added a third-period marker, and Brady Hinz chipped in with two assists.

For Lakehead, James Fuchs and Keighan Gerrie scored on the power play, while Austin Peters collected two assists. Lakehead capitalized on two of its three power-play opportunities, while Windsor went 0-for-4 with the man advantage. The Thunderwolves totaled 14 penalty minutes on seven infractions, while the Lancers recorded 12 minutes on six penalties. 

GAME FLOW 
Windsor opened the scoring at 4:46 of the first period when Shaw found the back of the net unassisted. Lakehead responded on the power play midway through the frame, as Fuchs converted to tie the game at one. The Lancers regained the later in the period, with McMullen finishing a setup from Hinz and Shaw to give Windsor a 2–1 advantage after twenty minutes. 

Early in the second period, McMullen struck again early, burying another feed from Hinz and Shaw to extend the lead to 3–1. Lakehead answered on the power play, as Gerrie cut the deficit to one heading into the third.

In the final frame, both sides traded chances before Hamlin provided insurance at 14:16, finishing a pass from Alex Cunningham to restore Windsor's two-goal cushion. Donoso stood tall down the stretch, turning aside eight third-period shots to preserve the 4–2 victory. 

UP NEXT 
The Lancers finish the season with an 18-7-3 (W-L-OTL) record, giving them 39 points and first place in the OUA West division. This secures a bye for the first round of the playoffs and home ice advantage against divisonal opponents. Playoff dates and times will be announced at a later date.
