Lancers battle to end with Gryphons in Round 1

The University of Windsor Lancers men's basketball team had their season come to an end on Wednesday (Feb. 18) night with a tightly contested 82-76 loss to the Guelph Gryphons in Round 1 of the Wilson Cup playoffs in Guelph, Ont.

GAME FLOW
Windsor trailed 20–18 after the opening quarter and faced a 40–35 deficit at halftime following a 20–17 second frame in favour of Guelph. The Lancers surged ahead in the third, outscoring the Gryphons 28–20 to take a 63–60 lead into the final quarter, but Guelph responded with a decisive 22–13 fourth quarter, including a 15-0 run, to secure the six-point victory and eliminate Windsor from postseason play.

Windsor delivered an efficient offensive performance, shooting 49.2% from the field and 36.8% from three-point range, while converting on 11 of 12 free throws. The Lancers also held a 38–35 edge on the glass, including 31 defensive rebounds. However, 16 turnovers proved costly, allowing the Gryphons to generate key scoring opportunities down the stretch.

STATS
Luke Grace led Windsor with 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting and a perfect 8-of-8 performance at the line, adding a game-high 11 rebounds for a double-double. Bronson Chambers poured in 22 points, knocking down six three-pointers, while Emanuel Otong added 17 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

Eric Armstrong paced the Gryphons with a game-high 28 points and seven rebounds, while Jack Tunstill contributed 18 points and eight boards. Guelph shot 44.9% from the field and closed the game with composure in the final minutes to punch their ticket to the next round.

UP NEXT
With the loss, Windsor concludes its season with a 12–11 (W-L) overall record, marking the end of their 2025–26 campaign, following a 12-10 regular season in which they placed third in the OUA West division and ninth in the OUA.
