Windsor Lancers

Jim Hunter

Jim Hunter is the Head Coach of the Windsor Lancers Women's Hockey program. Widely respected as one of the top local coaches in Windsor and Essex County, he has been behind the bench for the Lancers since being hired back in 2009.

In 2016-17, Coach Hunter picked up his 100th victory behind the bench for the Lancers. In addition, he led the team to their best record in program history in 2014-15 with 14-6-4 finish as they earned their sixth straight playoff appearance.

In 2013-14, the Lancers finished with a 14-8-2 record and earned an OUA playoff appearance for the fifth straight year. The Lancers were the highest scoring team in the OUA and ranked third overall in Canada this past year with 85 goals in 24 games. Coach Hunter's squad also featured the OUA Player of the Year and OUA scoring champion Jenny MacKnight who registered 40 points en route to being named a CIS All-Canadian.

In 2010-11, he led his squad to an impressive 15-11-1 record and earned the program's first ever CIS Top Ten ranking in Canada. As one of the league's youngest and most dynamic teams, the Lancers held their top ten ranking throughout the season and into the OUA West Quarter-Finals.

In 2009-10, in his first season behind the Lancer bench, Coach Hunter impressively led the Lancers to a playoff berth as they reached the OUA Semi-Finals. The Lancers were one of the hottest teams in the country in the second half of the season as they finished 9-2 in conference play and defeated the #2 ranked Laurier Golden Hawks in the regular season finale.

Prior to joining the Lancers, Coach Hunter spent two years as Head Coach of the Tecumseh Chiefs where he led them to the Sutherland Cup Jr. B Championship in 2008. For his leadership that season, he was named the 2007-08 Ontario Hockey Association Coach of the Year and the GOHL Coach of the Year.

An experienced coach at all levels, Jim also previously served four seasons as an assistant coach and director of player development with the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey League. During his time with the Spitfires, he was honoured with the Paul Maurice Award for dedication and sacrifice to the organization.

Coach Hunter has also worked as a scout for the OHL's Guelph Storm where he was part of their OHL Championship squad in 2004 that advanced to the Memorial Cup.

Also an experienced player, Jim spent three seasons playing in the Ontario Hockey League with the Peterborough Petes, Kingston Canadians and North Bay Centennials. He also played one season of professional hockey in the IHL with Toledo.
