Ryan Steer

Ryan Steer

A native of Windsor, ON, Ryan Steer will serve as the head coach of the Lancer men’s basketball program through the 2015-16 season.

Steer enjoyed an outstanding playing career in Windsor as he was a two-time OUA all-star and captained the Lancers to their first OUA Championship in 28 years in 2006-07. During that season, Ryan was one of the top point guards in Canada, averaging 7.1 assists which ranked him second in the nation. Steer still sits second all-time in Lancer history in career assists with 521.

He also played professionally for one season in Germany and helped coach a development team there as well.

No stranger to the local basketball coaching scene, Steer spent a season coaching alongside Oliver as an assistant in 2010 and helped lead that team to the CIS national championship tournament. He then branched out as co-founder of the Jr. Lancers program, an AAU travel basketball team for elite players from Windsor-Essex, Chatham and Sarnia. He has previously coached current Lancer players Mike Rocca, Marko Kovac and Stefan Tosic as well as incoming recruit Ian Smart.

Ryan has also coached locally at the high school level, including at Holy Names, St. Thomas of Villanova and Catholic Central.
