The Lancer Football team was defeated 37-20 by the Laurier Golden Hawks on Thanksgiving weekend in Waterloo.
With the loss, the Lancers fall to 2-4 on the season.
On Saturday, the Hawks jumped out to an early 14-0 lead on a pair of receiving touchdowns from Alex Anthony and Dillon Heap.
Laurier then picked up a safety after pinning the Lancers deep in their own zone. Chris Mamo would add a 40-yard field goal to give the home team the 19-0 advantage.
The Golden Hawks would continue to press forward as they made it 26-0 on another receiving touchdown from fullback Peter Quinney with just 12 seconds left in the first half.
The Hawks continued to dominate Windsor in the second half as Mike Montoya scored on a 49 yard rushing touchdown off a third down convert in which the running back flipped over the pile and kept going into the endzone.
The Lancers finally got on the board in the third half when Jordan Brescacin caught a 22 yard pass from quarterback Sam Malian to make the score 34-6.
Windsor then closed the gap with twenty seconds remaining in the third quarter when Malian connected with Seamus Postuma in the end zone. A two point conversion by Marcel Samuel made the score 34-14 heading into the final quarter.
Laurier would then add a 17 yard field goal to put the Golden Hawks up 37-14 heading into the final minutes of the game.
The final score of the game would come with less than a minute remaining in the contest as the Lancers got into the end zone for the final time on a 1 yard run by Malian.
For Windsor, Sam Malian completed 22 of 44 passes for 276 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was also the Lancers leading rusher with 35 yards. His favorite target was Cory Fernandes who had 5 receptions for 71 yards.
The Lancer defence was led by John Celestino who had 12 tackles on the day. Seamus Postuma also had a solid outing with 7.5 tackles and 2 sacks.
Golden Hawk Dillon Heap led all players with 279 all-purpose yards including 110 receiving, 56 on kick returns, 41 rushing and 72 on punt returns.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Hawks were led Mitchell Bosch who had 6.5 tackles.
The Lancers return home on Saturday, October 17th for their final regular season home game against the McMaster Marauders. Kick-off is set for 7pm on Alumni Field at the University of Windsor Stadium.
