Box Score The #3 ranked Windsor Lancers Women's Basketball team had a strong performance in their 2009-10 regular season debut as they defeated the York Lions 66-49 on Friday night at the St. Denis Centre.
With the victory, the Lancers move to 1-0 in conference play.
On Friday night, Windsor got off to a fast start as they used some solid post play
Jessica Clemencon to break out to an early 22-13 lead after the first quarter.
The Lions struggled to score inside throughout the first half as the combination of Clemencon and
Iva Peklova played tall in the post and gathered all the lose rebounds.
The first half also marked the return of
Laura Mullins, who got a big ovation from the crowd when she hit the court. Mullins suffered a torn ACL and MCL last season and was back in uniform for the first time since the injury.
Mullins' return seemed to spark the Lancers as their aggressive play at both ends of the court saw them hold a 33-28 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Coach Vallee's squad extended their lead thanks to some inspired play from
Bojana Kovacevic and rookie standout Miah Langlois.
