No. 2 Lancers upset by Marauders 66-50 for first loss of the season

Box Score
The No.2 ranked Windsor Lancers Women's Basketball team was upset 66-50 by the McMaster Marauders on Saturday afternoon in Hamilton.

With the loss, the Lancers are now 11-1 in conference play and remain atop the standings in the OUA West Division.

A slow start to the game saw Windsor up 4-2 halfway through the first quarter before McMaster went on a 7-0 run to take a 15-6 lead after the first ten minutes.

The home team took in the second quarter as they built a 25 point lead heading into the break. The Marauders shot 53% in the quarter compared to Windsor's 7%, while outrebounding the Lancers 16-8.

The Lancers came out energized and played with intense full court pressure to start the second half, which initially unsettled the Marauders.

Coach Vallee's squad put together small runs of 5-0, 6-0 and 5-0 around McMaster baskets to cut the Marauder lead to 13 points heading into the final quarter.

Windsor managed to reduce McMaster's lead to a mere six points, before the Marauders went on a 10-0 run against a tired Lancer team en route to the 66-50 upset victory.

The Lancers were led by Jessica Celemencon with 15 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks. Shavaun Reaney also contributed 15 points.

Windsor will hit the road again on Wednesday January 20th as they take on the Western Mustangs in London. The two teams met two weeks ago with the Lancers defeating the Mustangs 94-81 on home court.
