Clemencon unstoppable, Lancers roll to 94-81 victory over rival Mustangs

Rookie standout finishes with 36 points in the victory

Box Score Led by the dominating play of forward Jessica Clemencon, the Lancer Women's Basketball team rolled to a 94-81 victory over the Western Mustangs on Wednesday night at the St. Denis Centre.

With the victory, the #2 ranked Lancers move to 9-0 in conference play and now sit two games ahead of the Mustangs in first place in the OUA West Division.

Played in front of a capacity crowd in Windsor, the visitors had no answer for Windsor's rookie standout who dominated both ends of the floor in the victory.

On Wednesday night, both teams got off to hot starts in the early going as they showed why they are two of the top teams in the province again this year.

The Lancers broke out to an early 9-4 lead to open the game before the Mustangs charged back to tie the game 11-11.

The first quarter stayed tight throughout as neither team was able to break free from the other. 
The Lancers were able to take a lead late in the quarter after a Laura Mullins three pointer was rounded out with two foul shots from Jessica Clemencon to give the home team a 27-25 lead.
 
The Lancers stayed in control in the second despite being challenged by the constant attacking play of Western's Amanda Anderson.

The score was tied at 41-41 until a pair of Western turnovers were converted by Miah Langois and Bojana Kovacevic to
put another late quarter run in motion for Windsor.
 
After baskets from Kristy Chute and Jessica Clemencon, Windsor held a 54-50 lead at the half. 

In the third quarter, the Lancers were able to finally break away from the Mustangs thanks to more impressive post play from Jessica Clemencon and Raelyn Prince. Western had no answer for Clemencon as she dominated inside the paint in the second half.

Windsor outscored Western 27-17 in the third quarter to take a 81-67 lead after three quarters of play.

The final quarter saw the Mustangs try and mount a late run but it was not to be as the Lancers cruised in the fourth to the 94-81 victory.

The story of the game was the unstoppable play of Jessica Clemencon who finished with 36 points on an incredible 14 of 19 shooting. The native of St. Rambert, France was also 8 for 8 from the free throw line and added 7 rebounds and 3 assists on the night.

Laura Mullins also had a strong game with 15 points and 6 rebounds while Shavaun Reaney finished with 12 points and 6 rebounds.

Raelyn Prince had one of her best games of the season as she chipped in with 10 points and 8 rebounds and played solid defense in the paint. Kristy Chute also had a strong showing with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists on the night. Miah Langlois added 5 points and 6 assists in the win.

The Lancers will be back in action on Saturday night when they host the Brock Badgers at the St. Denis Centre. Tip-off is set for 6pm.
