The Lancer Women's Basketball team captured the 18th annual Hoopfest Invitational hosted by the University of Alberta this past weekend.
The Lancers claimed the title with a 76-66 victory over the host Alberta Pandas on Sunday afternoon in Edmonton.
Last year's CIS silver medal winners were led by a tournament high 32-points from sophomore forward
Jessica Clemencon.
Miah-Marie Langlois added 12-points in the win, and
Bojana Kovacevic chipped in with 16.
Clemencon was also named to the tournament all-star team for her strong play.
Windsor captured the overall title with a perfect 3-0 record in tournament play.
On Sunday, the host Pandas enjoyed a 34-29 lead at the break before the Lancers gained control of the game in the second half. The visitors cemented their second half led by outscoring Alberta 23-13 in the final ten minutes.
Alberta came out strong in the opening ten minutes, shooting the ball well and playing tough defense. They were rewarded with a nine point advantage going into the second quarter.
Windsor then adjusted and started to find their game in the second, outscoring Alberta by four, and almost leveling the score. The Lancers hit12 of their 26 shots, and four of five free-throws.
In the third quarter, the game remained close early until the the momentum began to swing in favour of the Lancers. They eventually tied the game by outscoring Alberta by six points, to send the teams into the fourth tied at 53-53.
Windsor's momentum carried through the final frame as they seized control of the game and earned the 76-66 road victory.
In earlier tournament action, the Lancers defeated the Regina Cougars 74-61 and the Victoria Vikes 65-45.
The Lancers will next be in action on October 22nd when they travel to Moncton, New Brunswick to take part in the Don Grant Memorial Tournament.
