Women's Basketball captures Don Grant Classic, remains undefeated

Iva Pekloca had 21 points in the championship game against UNB
The Lancer Women's Basketball team captured the Don Grant Classic Basketball tournament this past weekend in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Windsor grabbed the title with three impressive victories over Acadia, St. Mary's, and UNB and they remain undefeated in pre-season play.

In the championship game on Sunday afternoon, the Lancers came from behind to defeat the host UNB Varsity Reds 91-73.

A strong opening half and great shooting by UNB had the Lancers back on their heels, and UNB took a 47-35 lead into halftime.

Windsor then countered with an aggressive second half attack and outscored UNB 32-12 in the third quarter to retake the lead.

Once in the lead, the Lancers never looked back winning the 2nd half 56-26.

Led by Jessica Clemencon's 33 point, 13 rebound performance, and strong scoring support from Iva Peklova, with 21, Windsor came out on top to finish the 2010 DGC as Tournament Champions.

Bojana Kovacevic also added 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists in 39 min of action. Miah-Marie Langlois was stellar at the point guard spot playing all 40 minutes, registering 13 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals.

In their two previous games over the weekend, the Lancers opened up the tournament with a 74-63 win over the Acadia Axewomen, and followed that up with an impressive 75-48 win over the St. Mary's Huskies.

Heading into the heavily anticipated first Top ten ranking of the season to be released next week, the Lancers are 6-0 in the pre-season with all wins coming against fellow CIS schools.

The Lancers swept the Panda Invitational over Thanksgiving weekend with wins over Regina, Victoria, and Alberta before sweeping Acadia, St. Mary's and UNB this past weekend in Moncton.
